The Objective
The goal of the Major Scales Game is to construct all 12 Major Scales by adding black keys in strict mechanical order. This reinforces the logic of the Circle of Fifths, transforming abstract theory into a tactile construction task.
The First Scale
Begin by identifying the single major scale playable on White Keys only (C Major). This is your anchor point.
Action: Press and hold the tonic note.
Result: Note turns YELLOW. System is armed.
Scale Type Composition
The distribution of the 12 target scales
Step 2: Choose Your Path
The mechanics diverge based on the direction you choose.
♯ Sharps Order
Raise the Note
Move to the RIGHT
You are looking for scales where one note sounds "too low" and needs to be raised to correct the interval.
♭ Flats Order
Lower the Note
Move to the LEFT
You are looking for scales where one note sounds "too high" and needs to be lowered to correct the interval.
Step 3: The Construction Cycle
1. Find Scale
Play white keys. Find the one "wrong" note.
2. Add Accidental
Drag black key. Drop Right (Sharp) or Left (Flat).
3. Confirm
Bell rings. Press Tonic. Color changes.
Scale Acquisition Velocity
Cumulative scales unlocked per black key added
Why This Works
-
•
It gamifies the Circle of Fifths, turning abstract theory into a repeatable physical action.
-
•
By finding the "wrong note," users train their ear to detect intervals, not just memorizing visual patterns.
-
•
The color-coding (Yellow/Pink/Blue) creates immediate visual association for key signature types.
